Users will notice on ELM when creating jobs that the type of content license must be selected. You as the content owner get to decide how you want your products to be used after you sell it. There are two main types of content licenses: commercial use or personal use.

Commercial use means that you're ok with buyers using your content for commercial purposes for example advertisements for other websites, use for their own content websites, etc… Personal use means that the content they buy is only allowed for their personal viewing and enjoyment.

Below we will discuss what each type is and why you may or may not want to select either option. In each content license case the creator retains the copyright but grants the buyer a license to use it either commercially or personally.

Commercial Use License

A commercial use license means the buyer can use work created by job provider for commercial purposes. Buyers can use the product of jobs (photos, videos, audio files, etc...) to be used in derivative works like advertisements, promotional videos, or even for sale on other websites. In all cases, however, the job provider retains the copyright. The job provider grants the buyer to a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and in any media formats and through any media channels.

Advantages to Commercial Use License

  • Wider range of potential buying customers: adult webmasters, online marketing companies, filmmakers, etc... People who don't have easy access to models can now find people to help them advertise, create content
  • Providers can get more exposure online
  • Providers can charge more credits depending on the type of job

Disadvantages to Commercial use License

  • Buyers can edit and use job products without provider's control or consent

Example of Commercial Use License

The owner of sexyamateurdancers.com (fictional website), purchases a custom striptease video from a job provider for 50 credits. In the video the model is talking to the camera and telling the viewer to visit their website as she dances. After the product is delivered the owner of the website creates an animated gif from some of the video footage the provider delivered and also adds on top of the gif the logo for sexyamateurdancers.com. The owner the buys ads on a variety of websites online placing the animated gif ad featuring the job provider.

Personal Use License

A personal use license means that a buyer can only use a product delivered to them for personal use only. This means they can not post online, share with others. re-sell, or distribute the purchased product whatsoever. It is solely for personal use.

Advantages to Personal Use License

  • Job provider retains more in control of products created
  • Good if provider wants to re-use content for their own content website

Disadvantages to Personal Use License
