Pornification: The Future of Web Startups

by benic on November 5th, 2011

For those of you who don’t know our startup, ExtraLunchMoney.com (NSFW) is in the porn business. We don’t actually produce porn but we launched a marketplace for people to buy custom porn from sellers willing to make it for them. Where did this genius idea come from? We were inspired by Fiverr.com–where people post jobs they are willing to do for $5. We liked the site and the business model and said why not create a site where people post x-rated jobs they are willing to do? And hence extralunchmoney.com was born.

You might think that is great and all, but why should you care? In the process of building and launching our site in this industry we stumbled upon a revolutionary insight.  We discovered the secret to building a billion dollar web startup. You don’t need Startup School or Y-Combinator.  You need pornification.

“Wait a minute, I’ve heard of gamification, but what’s pornification??”

First, Wikipedia defines gamification as:

The use of game design techniques and mechanics to solve problems and engage audiences. Typically gamification applies to non-game applications and processes, in order to encourage people to adopt them.

And furthermore Wikipedia defines pornification as:

the use of sexually suggestive actions or materials to engage audiences or solve problems. Pornification is used in movies, games, toys and other mediums in order to differentiate products and to appeal to an audience with shifting moral and community standards. Recently pornification techniques have been used by internet companies to provide people new channels for sexual expression and entertainment

(disclosure: I might have had something to do with the  definition of pornification in wikipedia…)

Many hot startups (ie the ones that have raised millions of dollars) like Foursquare, Gowalla, Badgeville have all incorporated gamification techniques that contributed to their success. Pornification will bring about the next wave of successful startups. Venture capitalists get your checkbooks out.

Let’s look at examples of pornification.

Pornification in Movies

Right now the porn industry isn’t doing well. Free porn is everywhere so people aren’t buying $50 dvd’s anymore. However, there is one type of movie that has been doing OK; the porn parody movie. Their formula is simple in that they take a popular movie or tv show and “pornify it.” Examples include…

The Davinci Code vs. The Da Vinci Load

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom vs. San Fernando Jones and the Temple of Porn

Lord of the Rings vs Whore of the Rings

Pornification in Games

The gaming industry is also getting on board the pornification train. The guys at D-Dub software have a game out called Bonetown and their next game is called Bonecraft. In case you were wondering where the name Bonecraft came from…

Warcraft vs Bonecraft

Pornification on the Web

Hopefully you understand the limitless power of pornification. Since it’s worked in movies and games, why not internet startups? Here’s the secret recipe. Take a popular and hot internet site or app (ie anything that Techcrunch writes about) and add healthy doses of nudity and sex. Not quite sure how that works?  Here are 3 different trillion dollar business ideas.

Instagram and Instaporn

Instagram is a popular mobile photo sharing app where you can add cool filters and affects to your photos.

Instaporn  would be a mobile photo sharing app where you can only share photos of people having sex and then also apply really cool hipster filters to them. Any non sex photos would be flagged as inappropriate content and removed immediately.

AirBnB and AirBangNBang

AirBnB (which is short for Air Bed and Breakfast) is a website where you can rent out your house, rental property, apartment etc… to people looking for temporary housing. People post up pictures of their property as well as details like number of bedrooms, number bathrooms, location, and most importantly how much per night they are looking to rent it out for.

AirBangnBang would be a website where instead of renting out your apartment you rent out your body. You post up photos of yourself and include details like age, height, location, sexual activities that you are open to, and how much per night it is to rent your body… Legality is questionable.

GrubWithUs and FuckWithUs

GrubwithUs is a website that allows you to explore new restaurants by dining with strangers. The site works with restaurants to setup tables where you book a seat at get to have meal and meet new people.

FuckWithUs would be a website where you explore new hotels by having sex with the strangers. Through the site you reserve a spaces in a hotel room. Then on the day of the event you go to the hotel room and have sex with lots of strangers. Add a mobile location based app and now we’re talking full on Venture Capital fundable company. And remember it’s not prostitution since you aren’t paying to have sex with people. You are paying to book the hotel. It’s a win-win situation. Hotels get to fill their un-used capacity and everyone else gets to have sex.

Conclusion

Those are just 3 pornification ideas we came up with. But I’m sure you guys have others. So let us know in the comments what other revolutionary websites or apps could use a little pornification to spice things up .

In the end. Don’t think . Just “pornify” it.

  1. But how to pornify without capital? Even amateur doesn’t mean amateur anymore, from what I understand.

  2. I am actually working on a similar concept and was not sure how users would react to this but it’s good that I came across this article. I am working on a website where dating would be redefined with similar interests and no bullshit. Users can find the one they are looking for with a mutual agreement.
